Anand, Friday: International Women’s Day was celebrated at the District Collector’s Office under the chairmanship of District Development Officer (DDO) Ms. Devahuti.
On this occasion, the DDO extended her best wishes to all female employees in the district in honor of International Women’s Day.
District Collector Pravin Chaudhary also conveyed his greetings and, in his speech, emphasized the importance of ensuring women’s safety at workplaces.
The History of International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8 every year. The history of this day dates back to the 20th century.
- In 1908, working women in New York, USA, protested against low wages, long working hours, and demanded voting rights.
- In 1909, the Socialist Party of America observed Women’s Day for the first time.
- In 1911, the first International Women’s Day was celebrated in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
- Later, in 1975, the United Nations (UN) officially declared March 8 as International Women’s Day.
Significance of International Women’s Day
The primary goal of celebrating International Women’s Day is to raise awareness for women’s empowerment and recognize their contributions to social progress. Women have excelled in various fields, including science, technology, space research, and sports, proving their capabilities and working shoulder to shoulder with men.
Theme for International Women’s Day 2025
The theme for 2025 is “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment.” It calls for equal rights, opportunities, and empowerment for women.
The Government of India, along with the Government of Gujarat, has launched several initiatives to support women’s empowerment, including:
- Kanya Kelavani Abhiyan (Girl Child Education Campaign)
- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child)
- Prevention of Female Foeticide
Through these campaigns, awareness is being spread about gender equality and women’s rights, encouraging their holistic development in society.
