Introduction


The duty to take steps for complete alertness is maintained so that at no place in the district, there exists epidemics and the responsibility of health and prosperity of the district is also fulfilled. Good health is a must for the well-being of the people. For this, the health employees alert the people by vaccinations and awareness for public health. The medical officer provide 24 hours health service for the people at the district level primary health centers, community health secondary centers, etc. The Gujarat Government has decide to celebrate the current year 2008-09 the “Healthy child year”.

 

Vaccination


Under this program, children of 0-1 age group, are given vaccinations as per the time allotted, against 6 total diseases like child tuberculosis, child paralysis, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and measles. During pregnancy, the pregnant mother is given ‘Tetanus’ vaccination, so that after pregnancy, the mother or the child does not suffer from ‘Tetanus’ disease.

The health activity started since the mother becomes pregnant. The vaccination of “Dhanur” is given to the pregnant ladies at the primary health centers. Also, management is made for B.C.G. oral polio and ‘Triguni’ vaccines after the birth of the child. Also, this vaccination is given from time to time, until the child grows up. Apart from this, the health employees also provide vaccinations for hepatitis, malaria and other such infectious diseases.

Vaccination Dose
D.P.T. 3 doses are given until the child turns 1 years old.
Polio Small children are given 3 doses of  O.P.V. along with ‘Triguni’ vaccination.
D.T. Vaccination (Diphtheria, Tetanus) Vaccines are given to 5 year old children to avoid diseases like diphtheria and Dhanur (Tetanus)
B.C.G. This is a vaccination to resist the disease of tuberculosis. This vaccine is given once from a child’s birth till he/she turns 12 months old.
Measles 9-12 months old children are given one dose of this vaccination.

 

Maintenance of Cleanliness


The most important activity of health is cleanliness. Every now and then, public awareness for cleanliness is created in the school children and villages by organizing cleanliness camps. Where there is cleanliness, only there lies health. This impression is created in the minds of the people. Apart from this, measures are taken by the sanitary inspectors to check the level of cleanliness in the public places like hotels and cinema houses.

Care is taken for the mother and the child’s health in this program. The facilities of care for a pregnant mother, care of a mother during and after child delivery, child care, affection kit for safe and clean delivery, iron tablets, as well as the activities of advise, care and service during and secondary centers to the farthest house during clinic and house visits, under this program. In order to fight against ‘Dhanur’ disease, pregnant women are given ‘Dhanur’ vaccination. Also their blood and urine tests are done.

 

School Health


In this program, every year, physical fitness test of children of std. 1 to 7 in primary school and std. 8 to 12 in secondary/higher secondary school as well as of children not going to school is done by M.O. and paramedical staff. And, referral services are given free of charge to children suffering from serious diseases like that of heart, kidney and cancer.
